OVERVIEW:

Join Ted Forbes to consider all creative and practical aspects of making your own photo zine using an existing selection of personal images, or developing a new photographic series.

Photo Zines—Concept to Creation is a project-based experience. You, Ted, and a few fellow photographers will meet virtually for several sessions to address essential content and design ideas, inspire one another through conversation, and tackle short assignments.

Photo Zines—Concept to Creation is designed with three key goals in mind:
— Make time for thoughtful focus on one photography project
— Walk away with a unique photo zine, designed and ready for publication
— Connect with other passionate photographers

Key Components and Content:

  • A survey of photo zines and artist’s books to inspire and provide context for your project.

  • Presentation and dialogue about everything from concept, image selection, and sequencing to layout, printing, and more.

  • Assignments and exercises to workshop ideas and refine your vision.

  • Working Group—for one of the sessions you’ll meet with Ted and 2-3 other photographers to present in-progress ideas and gain feedback. This small group session will serve as Session III and occur in lieu of the large group meeting.

  • Guidance and recommendations for design templates and tools, printers, and distribution.
